This poignant and uplifting true story tells of John Merrick who is horribly disfigured by a genetic disease. After suffering a life of abuse and indignity as a sideshow freak, he is taken in by a compassionate doctor. He takes up residence in a London hospital where is is exposed to art and literature and introduced to elite society by the doctor.
